Young People’s WISHLIST
For children’s mental health inpatient care in England

Co-production in children and young people’s PICUs and secure settings for mental health, learning disability and autism
Our focussed work includes:
- Running a YPAG in collaboration with University of Salford Lanscape Research Project to directly inform LANDSCAPE: a large scale piece of research auditing current practice nationally in inpatient settings (funded by Napicu)
- Engaging over 50 children and young people in a wide range of workshops and interviews to talk about their experiences of inpatient settings on various topics including: education, maintaining physical health, maintaining connectivity, suicidal feelings and self harm to inform the NHSE National Quality Improvement Taskforce
- Co-producing resources for inpatient settings to improve the responses by staff to children and young people during self-harm incidents on the ward
- Contributing towards the NHSE National Quality Transformation Programme: Supporting with the design and delivery of site visits, shaping themes, framework and consent processes for conversations with patients, their families and staff within settings about their experience of delivery of care, including reviewing use of psychotropic medication, and use of ‘observations’ practice
- Co-creating a digital feedback platform MINDWAVE: Bringing lived experience to help shape the design of a web tool so that it is relevant and effective for children and young people in inpatient settings
- Running an Expert Reference Group of young people with lived experience of inpatient settings to inform commissioning guidance for the New Model of Care, including advising on Culture of Care Standards and Intensive Treatment Services
