  • Do you live in North or West Yorkshire?
  • Have you lived through difficult times or life experiences?
  • Could you help the ATTUNE project think about how it can do sensitive research with young people?

We are looking for 16-24 year olds to join a Leeds Research Advisory Board for the ATTUNE project.

A bit about the ATTUNE project

It’s a 4-year study run by the University of Oxford, but lots of other universities and places are involved, including Leeds.

The project hopes to understand more about the difficult things children experience and how this may, or may not, affect their mental health when they are teenagers or young adults.

The project is using the arts to help young people get involved and tell their story, e.g. things like music, dance, poetry, animation, drama, drawing and other things like this.

A big aim of the project is to create 'serious games' that could help young people and the adults around them to understand how trauma can get to people.

Do I get paid?

Yes, you get paid £9.50 per hour of work, whether that is preparing for the meeting or coming to the meeting. For each meeting you attend and prepare for, this could be up to £40. Common Room will sort the payments for you and there are different ways to be paid.

What’s the time commitment?

It’s 3 meetings a year. This will be online or in person, depending on what the group wants. Each meeting will be about 2 hours. You may be asked to respond to short emails in between meeting or to do some thinking about a project problem before the meeting.

You can stay on the Advisory Group for the whole project time (up to December 2023) or you can leave after 1 year – so, just come to three meetings.

We will run the first meeting as soon as we have enough Group members.

Meetings will be after school hours and we will give you lots of notice of when meetings will be.

Do I have to talk about personal stuff?

No. Being on the Advisory Group means focusing on the project only. You will never be asked very personal questions. We will be keen to know your opinion and ideas about the project. But we want people on the Advisory Group who understand how difficult life can be for some children and young people.

What do Research Advisory Groups do?

We have Research Advisory Groups in Leeds, Kent, Cornwall and Oxford. Lots of very different young people will be on these groups. They will help make sure the ways we are doing things on the project makes sense and are good for young people.

The groups might come up with good ideas when we are stuck with a problem in the project, or good ideas about other things we could be doing.

A typical meeting would involve an update on the project and then working through some questions the project team need help with.

The Leeds Advisory Group will all be from North or West Yorkshire. Some may never have been in any group like this before. We know it can be a bit awkward to meet new people, but we will make this comfortable.
