LED BY LIVED EXPERIENCE

Common Room is led by lived experience.  We connect the expertise of young people with researchers, practitioners and policymakers to ensure lived experience influences research, policy and practice.  We also promote shared decision-making, person centred care and collaborative practice across education, social care, health and mental health.

Our experience and interests include:

  • Disability equality
  • Mental health
  • Collaborative practice, person centred care and shared decision-making in social care, health and mental health services
  • Developing the skills and confidence of professionals to have difficult conversations with young people about a range of issues, including safeguarding, self-harm and mental health
  • Facilitating co-production to ensure young people with lived experience influence local and national research, policy and service improvement programmes
  • Engaging with children and young people on difficult or sensitive topics and working with them to translate lived experience into tangible policy and practice improvements
  • Preventing and responding to disablist or homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools and other settings
